DYLAN HOLLINGSWORTH PORTRAITS // DALLAS, TX

I miss having a studio space. I only had it for a short time on Lower Greenville in Texas. During this time I was traveling a lot for work so having a solid space didn’t really make all that much sense…not to mention the face that studio lighting gave me heart palps. I stayed safe with natural light photography but every so often I would invite someone over who I admired and asked if I could take their portrait. Sometimes in the middle of the night because that’s when I would let myself go and give my anxiety the boot for a minute. Safe to say that I snapped some of my favorite portraits ever when I invited Dylan Hollingsworth over some some casual shots and conversation. We talked in between photos and it flowed effortlessly. The shot of him in mid conversation shows the gentle intensity of this human being. I am so glad I told my nerves to scam. I had been following Dylan and his photography work since Myspace days. His photographs always stuck with me so getting to not only sit down to have a conversation with him but to get the honor of taking his portrait is not lost on me. Thankful for this time in life. Thankful for the protest photographs and stories he shared almost 15 years ago…they were the catalyst for me wanting to do something meaningful with my work. Something that hopefully will leave tangible items to hold on to. Maybe even a story around a campfire when I’m long gone. Circling up with him online almost 10 years after this portrait session has been life giving. Seeing his portraits & stories from his time spent in Palestine confirms in every single way just how deeply this human is able to connect with others. Do yourself a favor and take a look at his collection called “The Lives of Others” (Oral histories and environmental portraits that offer glimpses into the people, communities and stories of our time.) Dylan has forever changed the way I live life and share stories. See more of Dylan’s work HERE.
