The shot of him in mid conversation shows the gentle intensity of this human being. I am so glad I told my nerves to scam. I had been following Dylan and his photography work since Myspace days. His photographs always stuck with me so getting to not only sit down to have a conversation with him but to get the honor of taking his portrait is not lost on me. Thankful for this time in life. Thankful for the protest photographs and stories he shared almost 15 years ago…they were the catalyst for me wanting to do something meaningful with my work.

Conference photography is an excellent way to remember specific moments at the event, but conference recap videography is the best way to showcase the intentionality and really share the spirit of the event itself. This was my first ever “day in the life of” branding session. Let me set the scene…it’s 2013 in a city I had never spent time it. I am pretty sure I wandered into their shop our of sheer curiosity and said hey I would love to spend the day with you all and snap a few photos of you all just BEING together. You seem cool. Anytime I’ve done that I never regret my decision. Trust your gut and talk to people. My time with the crew over at Ink and Hammer Manufacturing Company in Dayton really left me wanting more. Listen, when I say I was excited for this event, I mean I was entirely unable to focus on anything else the week leading up to it. I worked in the Service industry for many years as a server and bartender, so this was my own special kind of nerd out. I was always fascinated by the marketing science behind many of the menu, décor, and music decisions, but I never imagined there were entire events dedicated to the details. It makes sense that there are organizations that honor industry leaders in various categories, but it’s not something I was ever privy to even as a manager. Turns out, I was just the wrong kind of manager!

GENDER AFFIRMING SURGEON DALLAS

I like to think of myself as a collector of connections. It’s an accurate way to describe the joy I get from meeting new people, and it’s a lot less threatening than saying I’m a “collector of people.” Win/win, right? There’s just something about feeling the spark of something new and exciting the first few minutes after an introduction, and it was especially strong with Dany. He and his family had met me at a local coffeehouse to talk through some photography possibilities, and his passion for his work and the people he serves was evident within the first few minutes of conversation.
